History

Information: History

The Banks lake area sits along a path stamped by many ice-age floods. A tremendous force of more than 400 trillion gallons of water cut through the Pacific Northwest over and over again, ultimately carving the valleys and basins of the Columbia Plateau. This area is now known as the Channeled Scablands. This area is an amazing display of nature that is best viewed in person.

The road trip to the Banks Lake area boasts views nearly as amazing as those encountered at the lake itself. Highway 17 leads past Banks Lake from the Othello area to Grand Coulee and was recently names a National Scenic Highway. This area is often referred to as the Coulee Corridor.  Sunbanks Resort is perfectly positioned along this byway so that travelers can easily enjoy the majestic sights.
